The Tuart Tree is an icon in the Perth garden scape.  It dominates the sky as one of the bigger trees that grow in our fine city.  It spruces up any suburb it is in, and an absolute pleasure to have one in your backyard.  With proper care, maintenance and knowledge you can manage these gorgeous trees and get the most out of them.

You can find Tuart trees in your backyard, along residential streets and growing on school ovals. Although they may be unpredictable (though not as much so than other plants), these beautiful Australian natives are a very common sight all across South Western Australia!

Most would agree that it is a very beautiful tree, however, these species are known to unpredictably let go of branches and limbs.  Not good news for people who find themselves beneath when that happens.  When these trees grow close to buildings there is a risk that roots can grow towards foundations upsetting the structural integrity.

Last year in Tasmania, a young boy was killed due to the Tuart Tree limbs breaking and hitting his family’s car. This event shocked everyone involved; however, it could have been prevented if care had been taken to monitor the Tuart Tree for potential dropped object risks.

The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to have your Tuart Tree inspected by a qualified arborist.  They will be able to advise on a course of action to mitigate the risks poses by this tree species.

How To Identify A Tuart Tree

The Tuart Tree found in the South West of Australia as well as other parts look very similar to the widespread Eucalyptus Tree.  The tree will flower in summer, has green leaves that are pale on the bottom and can grow to 35 meters.  Have a look in the backyard and keep your eyes peeled when walking down your street, you will most likely find them in your suburb around Perth.

If you are unsure if a tree is a Tuart then it is best to call out one of Perth Tree Care’s experienced Arborists.  Knowledge of the trees in our neighbourhoods is invaluable knowledge when it comes to being able to spot nasty risks before they occur.

What To Do If You Spot A Tree Branch Or Limb About To Fall

Don’t waste any time, ensure that the area below the tree is blocked off so that unknown people can avoid the area.  Make sure to not get into the path of the branches yourself!

Contact our team and we will send out an Arborist as soon as we can.

What To Do If A Tuart Tree Has Dropped A Significant Branch Or Limb

Immediately make the area safe so that people won’t be hurt by the branch shifting position when settling.  Obviously, you will want to risk access the area to spot any hazards to yourself before doing this.

Call our office to arrange for a trained and experienced team member to come out and advise the best way to remove the branch and dispose of it.

Of course, you can simply choose to remove the tree and grind the stump so that you remove any risks in the future.
